This engaging lecture will explore the unique experiences of Muskegon during the electrifying 1920s. Staff from the Lakeshore Museum will bring the era to life, delving into the local stories and trends that mirrored the national "Jazz Age." Discover how the lumber and manufacturing industries shaped Muskegon's economy and culture, the rise of leisure activities like movie theaters, dance halls, and the burgeoning popularity of automobiles, the impact of national trends like flapper fashion and jazz music on the local scene, and the everyday lives of Muskegon residents, from factory workers to shopkeepers to socialites. Registration Required. 

This program is part of the Big Read Lakeshore 2024 and has been inspired by The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
